Before starting your business, it is imperative that you make a decision on what legal structure your business or corporation is to take. Currently Qatar has seven types of legal structures.
Fortunately, whichever structure you choose, you will find out that they have very similar steps in order to be registered. However, if you are starting completely anew, we suggest you register as a simple partnership company first, as this requires the least amount of startup capital.
Do note that all submissions will be have to be made to the Ministry of Economics and Commerce (MEC) of Qatar.
Steps to starting a Simple Partnership Company in Qatar
Step 1- Local Partner
For this initial step, you will have to ensure that you have at least one partner who is a Qatar national. As this is mandated by the law.
Step 2- Business name
The next step to registering is to decide on your business name. Do note that you have to adhere to the following regulations regarding the name.
- The name must be unique, i.e. it should have no similarities to the names of pre-existing businesses.
- The name should not have anything considered inappropriate or offensive in Qatar.
- Unless you have prior permission, the name should contain the name of at least one of the owners.
Step 3- Memorandum of Association
Now you will have to draft and submit your memorandum of association. This will need the following details:
- Business name
- Details of partners/owners
- Details of business activities
- Copies of identification of all partners/owners
Once you have all documents prepared, you may submit them with a filled application form at the nearest branch office of the MEC. If your application is successful, you will get your business license within 7 working days.
